Name artist: Martin Agge Augustsson
Material: Steel
ABOUT THE PIECE:
Hailing from Gothenburg for fifteen years before beginning my studies in the forests of Dalsland, I drew inspiration from the sea and the nautical history of the city. Thusly, the idea of a sculpture imbued with what drove the fastest vessels at the time of Gothenburg’s inception was born. This sculpture has a flow of movement reminiscing of a topsail of old, tethered to a mast with ropes made out of the same rope-like material that makes up its own form. It is entirely made out of reclaimed and upcycled steel and steel components, mostly since steel is my material of choice and I felt that not using any new material was best in keeping with the spirit of the site, but also to show that you can remake discarded material into something entirely different than what most people imagine it becoming. I have tried to conceptualize the sense of potential forward momentum of EAC Linnarhult tempered with the temporary limitations that exist for now, although I expect them to shatter their fetters before the ones holding my sail down rusts through.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
A former factory worker turned metal art student, Agge has a fairly odd journey behind him. Starting with a passion for history and the more fantastical elements of fiction, going for the hobby of creating chainmail as a creative outlet (both as jewelry and armour/clothing) was the gateway into more serious creative pursuits more than a decade later. This led to trying out blacksmithing after a life-long curiosity of it and metal art very soon after taking up the hammer. Entering the metal prep program at Steneby with a plan to develop the more craft-oriented side of his jewelry and blacksmithing, he found so much more satisfaction in art and is now attending the bachelor’s program in Metal Art at HDK-Valand.
